Unkaku Matcha from the Marukyu Koyamaen Company is rich, vibrant, and rather compelling. The tea starts robust initially, but it quickly softens with some really beautiful complexity in the mid-palate and a sweet and mellow finish. This matcha is dynamic and delicious.
Unkaku is the fourth entry in Marukyu Koyamaen's principal matcha lineup - a company with a 300 year history making Uji matcha. Marukyu Koyamaen has won the first prize in Japan's National Tea Competition 22 times. Their teas are highly regarded, used in many tea schools, shrines, and temples throughout Japan.
A typical serving of matcha is 2 grams per bowl, so a 20 gram tin of matcha yields about 10 servings while a 40 gram tin of matcha yields about 20 servings.
