Qingxin Japanese Black Tea from Sashima
Warm and aromatic Japanese black tea with honey sweetness and delicate floral notes reminiscent of lavender. Made from Qingxin-wulong, the heritage Taiwanese cultivar typically reserved for oolong and the foundation of Taiwan's most celebrated teas. Grown in Sashima (one of the coldest tea-growing regions in Japan) where the harsh winters and short growing season make cultivating this cultivar particularly challenging, the producer has coaxed something unexpected from the leaf: a black tea with the floral complexity that makes Qingxin famous in Taiwan, but fully oxidized into something soft, sweet, and nearly tannin-free.
The liquor has pleasant presence without being heavy, with spicy nuances that develop in the finish. The cultivar's signature florals linger beautifully in the aftertaste.
From Kimura Family in Yamazaki, Sakai town, Sashima district of Ibaraki Prefecture.
Harvested May 2025.
